Nuclear Weapons Research and Development Working Group

The New Weapons Research and Development working group collects and disseminates information about laboratory-based nuclear weapons research and development programs in nuclear weapons states, and encourages cooperation among international NGOs in opposing these programs. We are facilitating cooperation between U.S. and Japanese NGOs opposing the U.S. National Ignition Facility (NIF), and between U.S. and French NGOs opposing the NIF and the French Laser Megajoule. We seek to engage German NGOs in this effort. (Japanese and German companies are the major producers of glass lenses for the giant lasers.) In November, 2001 we contributed to the NGO Statement presented at the CTBT Entry-into-Force Conference.
